Why to analyze a painting ? The implemented techniques ? Assets of CIRAM
Why to analyze a painting? The scientific analysis of a painting recovers from a preoccupation of expertise. It comes as a supplement to the analysis of an expert recognized over a historic period, on a technique or on an artist for example. The scientist has then for mission to supply essential objective data in the good understanding of the work as: - the revealing of a signature, - the dating of the painting or the wooden support, - the characterization of a specific technique, - the visulaisation of repentirs, - the characterization possible of preparatory drawings, - the stake névidence of phases of restorations, - the nature of the pigments of color and the layer of preparation used during the creation or the restorations. All these techniques are proposed by CIRAM in the strict respect for a initiative of high scientific rigour. Furthermore, to facilitate these analyses, we developed in situ technics preventing most of the time of moving the picture. This brings a supplementary security available with most of CIRAM services.
